The History:
I was sucked into this thing,
innocently enough: I bought an old 1974 BMW R90/6 with thoughts of restoring it. Just passing my 50th birthday & probably
going through my "Middle-Age Crazies", I decided to get a sidecar for it. I went onto Ebay & found a guy in the Ukraine who
had one up for auction. I am ashamed to say just how much I paid for it, but anyway, it was shipped to the receiver in South
Carolina. I drove up from Florida & loaded it up onto my pickup truck & brought it home. What hooked me was what was in the
same shipment: there were two motorcycles. When my eyes gazed upon them, it was all over. There was a bright yellow Dnepr
& a blue Dnepr, both had sidecars mounted. As far as I was concerned, neither should have been driven, they were so mechanically
perfect & beautiful they belonged in a museum somewhere. I could not find a flaw on either one & they were old too. From then
on, not even a fully restored 1974 BMW R90/6 could quench my lust.
The Future:
In August my wife & I will travel
to Kyiv & meet with the creator of those flat-head jewels: Andy, Alenka & the crew at Arbalet Motors:

In
the meantime, I bought an old Russian "dummy" light machine gun to mount on my future Dnepr, read 3 books on the Ukraine,
I've probably driven Andy & Alenka crazy with my phone calls & I registered a few dot-coms:

I
figured Harley Davidson owners have H.O.G. so why can't Dnepr owners have D.O.G.
The Here & Now:
That brings
us back to Today. The Dnepr Motorcycle is the "Red-Headed Step-Child" of the motorcycle world. No one (with the exception
of a brave & hardy few) wants to claim ownership to one. The Dnepr harkens back to an age of simplicity, you may break down
on the side of the road, but with few exceptions, you can usually repair it "On the Spot". There are no transistors, circuit
boards, or mysterious black boxes to contend with. there are no plastic body parts to rattle to pieces. The Dnepr Motorcycle
(or one of its sister bikes) was responsible for helping conquer a great majority of Europe & almost all of Asia, but here
in the U.S.A. it has captured the hearts & minds of the brave few who have dared to love her.
And so, that brings us
to D.O.G.
